1887-1893-S Australia Gold Sovereign Victoria Jubilee Avg Circ
Struck in the late nineteenth century, this gold sovereign represents a fascinating era of Australian minting. Produced at the Sydney Mint, each piece contains 0.2354 troy ounces of gold with a purity of 91.67 percent. These coins survive in average circulated condition or better, carrying the physical evidence of their journey through commerce. The obverse of the coin displays a left-facing, crowned portrait of Queen Victoria, created to mark her Golden Jubilee. Her draped bust and royal crown capture the imperial presence of the era. The inscription VICTORIA is clearly legible, framing the monarch's likeness. On the reverse, the coin features the classic numismatic masterpiece by Benedetto Pistrucci depicting Saint George on horseback as he slays a mythical dragon. Collectors can locate the tiny 'S' mint mark positioned just beneath the horse, signifying its origin at the Sydney branch mint in Australia.
