The 1887 Morgan Dollar stands as a remarkable survivor from an era when silver coinage was a cornerstone of daily commerce in the United States. Minted in Philadelphia, this particular coin bears no mint mark, a traditional feature of the main mint's production during this period. Composed of 0.900 fine silver, containing 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal, the coin represents a design series that circulated throughout the nation for nearly eighty years. On the obverse, the profile of Liberty is depicted wearing a Phrygian cap, a classic symbol of freedom, with the word Liberty clearly inscribed upon her hair band. Surrounding her portrait are thirteen stars representing the original colonies, the date 1887, and the Latin motto E Pluribus Unum. This certified Mint State 64 specimen preserves these details with excellent clarity. The reverse of the coin showcases a powerful bald eagle with its wings spread, grasping an olive branch of peace and arrows of readiness in its talons. Above the eagle, the motto In God We Trust is inscribed in stylized script, while the legends United States of America and One Dollar frame the central design.
