The 1887 Morgan silver dollar stands as a classic representative of late nineteenth-century American coinage. Struck at the main United States Mint in Philadelphia, this coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.7734 troy ounces of the precious metal. It represents a massive production year for the Philadelphia facility, which minted more than twenty million of these silver dollars in 1887. The front of the coin showcases a left-facing profile of Liberty. Her hair is adorned with a Phrygian cap, and a band across her hair bears the inscription of her name. Encircling this central portrait is the traditional Latin motto meaning "Out of Many, One," alongside thirteen stars and the 1887 date. On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted with its wings spread, grasping an olive branch and a cluster of arrows in its talons. Surrounding this national symbol are the legends indicating the country of origin, the face value of one dollar, and the motto expressing trust in God.
