1887-O Morgan Dollar MS-63 PCGS
The 1887 Morgan silver dollar represents a classic era of American coinage, minted during a period when these large silver pieces circulated widely across the country. Struck at the historic New Orleans Mint, this specific coin bears the distinctive 'O' mint mark on its reverse. Containing 0.77344 troy ounces of actual silver content, the coin is composed of 90 percent silver and 10 percent copper. On the obverse side, the profile of Liberty is shown wearing a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom, with the word 'Liberty' inscribed upon her hair band. Surrounding her portrait are thirteen stars representing the original colonies, the year of issue 1887, and the Latin motto 'E Pluribus Unum'. This example has been certified in Mint State 63 (MS-63) condition, preserving the details of its original design. The reverse of the coin displays a bald eagle with its wings spread, grasping an olive branch of peace and arrows of strength in its talons. Encircling this central image are the inscriptions 'United States of America' and the face value 'One Dollar', along with the motto 'In God We Trust' positioned above the eagle. This design belongs to the celebrated Morgan Dollar series, a staple of American currency that circulated for roughly 80 years.
