In 1887, the New Orleans Mint produced over eleven million silver dollars, contributing to a famous coin series that circulated throughout American commerce for roughly eight decades. This specific specimen has survived in a remarkable state of preservation, certified at the high grade of Mint State 65. Struck from 0.900 fine silver, the coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal. The obverse features a profile of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap, with her hair band displaying her name. Encircling her portrait are thirteen stars, the year of manufacture, and the traditional Latin motto meaning "Out of many, one." On the reverse, a bald eagle clutches both an olive branch and arrows, symbolizing peace and readiness. The reverse also bears the national motto "In God We Trust" alongside the country of origin and the face value. Collectors can identify the New Orleans origin by locating the small "O" mint mark positioned just above the denomination.
