The 1888 Morgan Silver Dollar stands as a classic example of late nineteenth-century American coinage. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this particular issue carries no mint mark, a traditional feature of the main facility's production during this era. Containing 0.7734 troy ounces of 90 percent pure silver, the coin has been graded in Mint State 62 (MS-62), preserving the details of its original striking. On the obverse side, the profile of Liberty faces left, adorned with a Phrygian cap that features a hair band inscribed with the word LIBERTY. Surrounding her portrait are thirteen stars, the date of issue (1888), and the classic Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. The reverse side displays a heraldic bald eagle with its wings spread, grasping a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons. The national motto IN GOD WE TRUST is positioned above the eagle, while the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOLLAR frame the central design.
