Struck in the late nineteenth century, this 1888 Morgan Silver Dollar represents a classic era of American coinage. Minted at the main Philadelphia facility, this specific issue carries no mint mark. It contains 0.7734 troy ounces of silver, with a total purity of 90 percent silver. Out of a total mintage of 19,183,000 pieces for that year from Philadelphia, this specimen has survived in remarkable condition, earning a certified grade of Mint State 63 (MS-63). The obverse features a profile of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap, decorated with a band inscribed with the word "Liberty". Surrounding her portrait are thirteen stars representing the original colonies, the national motto "E Pluribus Unum", and the 1888 date. On the reverse, a bald eagle holds an olive branch and arrows in its talons, framed by a wreath. The inscriptions on this side include "United States of America", the denomination "One Dollar", and the motto "In God We Trust".
