Struck at the historic New Orleans Mint, this 1888 silver dollar represents a classic era of American coinage. The coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of silver, minted with a purity of 90 percent. This particular specimen has been certified in Mint State 63 condition, preserving the details of its nineteenth-century craftsmanship. The obverse features a left-facing portrait of Liberty, who wears a Phrygian cap adorned with a band inscribed with the word Liberty. Surrounding her profile are thirteen stars, the year of issue 1888, and the Latin motto E Pluribus Unum. On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted clutching both an olive branch and arrows in its talons. The national motto In God We Trust is positioned above the eagle, while the inscriptions United States of America and the One Dollar face value encircle the central design.
