The 1888-O Morgan Silver Dollar stands as a compelling artifact from late nineteenth-century America. Minted in New Orleans, this coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver, with a total silver purity of 0.900. This specific specimen has been preserved in Extra Fine condition, allowing its historic design elements to remain clearly visible to those who study it. On the obverse side, the profile of Liberty faces left. She wears a Phrygian cap, a classic symbol of freedom, secured by a band inscribed with the word LIBERTY. The year 1888 is struck boldly at the bottom of the design. Surrounding the portrait are the traditional stars and the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, which is partially reflected in the early minting inscriptions. The reverse side presents a powerful bald eagle with its wings spread wide. In its talons, the eagle firmly grasps both an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, representing a balance of peace and readiness. Above the eagle, the motto IN GOD WE TRUST is inscribed.
