The 1888-S Morgan Dollar represents a fascinating moment in late nineteenth-century American coinage. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this coin belongs to a production run of just 657,000 pieces. Made of 90 percent silver, it contains 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal. This particular coin survives in Fine condition, showing the honest wear of a design that actively circulated in commerce for about eight decades. On the obverse, a left-facing profile of Liberty wears a Phrygian cap, which features a hair band inscribed with the word 'Liberty'. Surrounding this central portrait are thirteen stars, the 1888 year of issue, and the Latin motto 'E Pluribus Unum'. The reverse displays a bald eagle with its wings spread, grasping a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons. The inscriptions 'United States of America' and 'One Dollar' encircle the eagle, while the motto 'In God We Trust' is positioned directly above its head.
