The 1889 Morgan Dollar stands as a classic representation of late nineteenth-century American coinage. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.7734 troy ounces of the precious metal. It represents a massive production run from that year, with a total mintage of 21,726,000 pieces. The obverse features a left-facing profile of Liberty. She wears a Phrygian cap, which is adorned with a hair band displaying the word LIBERTY. Encircling her portrait are thirteen stars, the date 1889, and the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted holding an olive branch and a cluster of arrows in its talons. The eagle is surrounded by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the face value, ONE DOLLAR. The national motto, IN GOD WE TRUST, is positioned above the eagle's head.
