The 1889 silver dollar struck at the New Orleans Mint represents a classic era of American coinage. This specific piece has survived in About Uncirculated 55 condition, showing only minor signs of friction on its highest points after more than a century. Containing 0.7734 troy ounces of silver, the coin belongs to a historic series that circulated actively in commerce for roughly eight decades. On the obverse side, a left-facing portrait of Liberty wears a traditional Phrygian cap, which features a band inscribed with her name. This central figure is encircled by thirteen stars, the year 1889, and the Latin motto meaning "Out of many, one." Turning the coin over reveals an American bald eagle with outstretched wings, clutching both a symbolic olive branch and a cluster of arrows. Above the eagle, the phrase "In God We Trust" appears in Gothic script, while the surrounding legends identify the nation as the "United States of America" and designate the face value as "One Dollar." The "O" mint mark, positioned just below the wreath on the reverse, identifies this dollar as a product of the historic Louisiana facility, which produced 11,875,000 of these silver pieces that year.
