The 1889-O Morgan Silver Dollar represents a fascinating moment in late nineteenth-century American coining. Produced at the historic New Orleans Mint, this specific issue carries the distinctive "O" mint mark, a detail that connects it directly to the unique industrial heritage of the American South. Striking nearly twelve million of these silver cartwheels in 1889, the New Orleans facility contributed a massive volume of currency to a growing nation. Crafted from 90 percent silver, each of these coins contains 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal.
