Struck in the late nineteenth century, this 1889 silver coin represents a classic era of American coinage. Minted at the historic New Orleans facility, it carries the distinctive 'O' mint mark on its reverse. This particular specimen survives in Extra Fine condition, displaying crisp details across its surfaces after more than a century. It is composed of 90 percent silver, which equates to 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal. The obverse design presents a profile of Liberty adorned with a Phrygian cap, her hairband inscribed with the word 'LIBERTY'. Encircling this central figure are thirteen stars, the year of manufacture, and the Latin motto 'E Pluribus Unum'. On the reverse, a bald eagle clutches both an olive branch and arrows, symbolizing a desire for peace alongside a readiness for defense. The eagle is framed by the inscriptions 'United States of America', 'One Dollar', and the motto 'In God We Trust'.
