The 1889 silver dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint represents a classic era of American coinage. This particular specimen has survived in remarkable condition, certified at a Mint State 63 grade. Containing 0.7734 troy ounces of silver with a purity of 0.900, the coin belongs to the celebrated Morgan Dollar series, a design that circulated throughout the United States for roughly 80 years. On the obverse side, the profile of Liberty is depicted wearing a Phrygian cap, which features a band inscribed with the word Liberty. Surrounding her portrait are thirteen stars representing the original colonies, the traditional Latin motto E Pluribus Unum, and the 1889 year of manufacture. Turning the coin over reveals a powerful bald eagle on the reverse, clutching both an olive branch and arrows in its talons. The reverse is also inscribed with United States of America, the denomination One Dollar, and the national motto In God We Trust. Just below the eagle, the S mint mark identifies this piece as a product of the historic San Francisco minting facility.
