Minted in Philadelphia during the late nineteenth century, this 1890 Morgan Silver Dollar represents a classic era of American coinage. Composed of 90 percent silver, this piece contains 0.7734 troy ounces of the precious metal and survived decades of active use. In fact, this specific coin type circulated as everyday currency for approximately 80 years, passing through countless hands before being preserved in its current Extra Fine condition. The obverse side presents a profile of Lady Liberty wearing a traditional Phrygian cap. Surrounding her portrait are thirteen stars representing the original colonies, the year 1890, and the classic Latin motto E Pluribus Unum. The word Liberty is also integrated into her hairband. Because this coin was struck at the main Philadelphia Mint, it does not display a mint mark. On the reverse, a bald eagle holds an olive branch and arrows in its talons, symbolizing peace and readiness. The inscriptions on this side include United States of America, the denomination One Dollar, and the national motto In God We Trust. Together, these details create a powerful visual record of late Victorian-era America.
