1890-O Morgan Dollar AU
The 1890 Morgan Dollar is a fascinating artifact from a classic era of American currency. Struck at the historic New Orleans Mint, as indicated by the O mint mark on the reverse, this coin represents a series that circulated for roughly 80 years. Minted in 90 percent pure silver, each coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of the precious metal. This particular specimen survives in Almost Uncirculated condition, retaining much of its original detail and luster from the late nineteenth century. The obverse of the coin showcases a profile of Liberty adorned with a Phrygian cap, her hair band inscribed with the word Liberty. Encircling her portrait are thirteen stars representing the original colonies, the date 1890, and the traditional motto E Pluribus Unum. On the reverse, a bald eagle holds an olive branch and arrows in its talons, symbolizing both peace and readiness. The surrounding inscriptions include United States of America, One Dollar, and the national motto In God We Trust. Together, these elements make the 1890-O Morgan Dollar a compelling study in classic American coin design.
