In 1891, the Carson City Mint produced this silver dollar, a notable entry in a series that spanned from 1878 to 1904, with a brief final appearance in 1921. This particular coin, composed of 0.7734 troy ounces of silver, represents a key moment in American numismatic history. The series itself circulated throughout the United States for roughly 80 years, becoming one of the nation's most recognizable silver issues. The obverse of the coin presents a left-facing profile of Lady Liberty. Breaking from traditional European artistic conventions, this design was the first to give Liberty a distinctly American appearance.
