The 1891 Morgan silver dollar is a striking example of late nineteenth-century American coinage. Struck from 0.7734 troy ounces of silver, this particular coin has been certified in Mint State 63 (MS-63) condition, preserving its historical details for modern observers to appreciate. On the obverse side, a profile of Liberty is shown wearing a classic Phrygian cap. A band in her hair displays the word LIBERTY, while the outer edge of the coin is encircled by the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, the 1891 year of manufacture, and thirteen stars representing the original colonies. Because this piece was struck at the Philadelphia Mint, it features no mint mark. The reverse side presents a powerful bald eagle with its wings spread, clutching both an olive branch and arrows in its talons. Surrounding this central image are the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination ONE DOLLAR. The national motto, IN GOD WE TRUST, is positioned directly above the eagle, completing a design rich in national symbolism.
