Struck in 1891 at the historic New Orleans Mint, this Morgan silver dollar is a fascinating specimen of late nineteenth-century American coinage. The coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver, alloyed with copper in a 90% to 10% ratio for durability. Measuring 38.1 mm in diameter and 3.1 mm in thickness, this substantial coin represents a total mintage of 7,954,529 pieces produced that year in Louisiana. Designed by George T. Morgan, the obverse features a left-facing profile of Lady Liberty. She wears a Phrygian cap secured by a ribbon that displays the word LIBERTY, with the year 1891 positioned at the bottom and thirteen stars encircling her portrait. The reverse depicts an American eagle with its wings spread wide, holding an olive branch and arrows in its talons. This side displays the New Orleans O mint mark, along with the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DOLLAR, and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. This particular coin has been graded in Mint State 62 (MS-62) condition.
