Struck in the year 1891 at the San Francisco Mint, this silver dollar represents a fascinating era of American coining history. Produced under the specific legal directives of the 1878 Bland-Allison Act, the coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of silver with a purity of 90 percent. This particular specimen has been certified in Mint State 63 (MS-63) condition, preserving the intricate details of its original engraving. The obverse features a left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty, who wears a Phrygian cap decorated with a wreath of wheat and cotton. The Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM and the date 1891 frame this classic depiction. George T. Morgan designed both sides of the coin, infusing the silver piece with symbolic imagery. On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted with wings spread wide, grasping an olive branch and arrows in its talons. A laurel wreath surrounds the eagle, while the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DOLLAR, and IN GOD WE TRUST are clearly struck into the silver. The small S mint mark below the wreath identifies its origin from the San Francisco facility, which produced a total of 5,296,000 of these dollars in 1891.
