Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this 1891 Morgan Dollar represents a classic era of American coinage. Minted with 0.7734 troy ounces of silver at a purity of 0.900, these heavy silver dollars were a staple of daily commerce in the United States, circulating actively for close to eighty years. The obverse features a profile of Liberty adorned with a Phrygian cap. This side of the coin is framed by thirteen stars, the year of issue 1891, and the traditional Latin motto E Pluribus Unum. The word Liberty is also clearly inscribed upon her hairband. On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted clutching both an olive branch and arrows in its talons, symbolizing a desire for peace alongside a readiness for defense. The reverse inscriptions include United States of America, One Dollar, and the motto In God We Trust. This specific coin has been preserved in Extra Fine condition, showing the enduring details of a design that helped define the look of late nineteenth century American money.
