1892 Morgan Dollar VG

0.7734 troy oz .900 1892 Very Good

The 1892 Morgan Dollar represents a classic era of American silver coinage. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this issue is distinguished by the absence of a mint mark, a characteristic feature of coins produced at the main facility during this period. Out of a mintage of 1,036,000, this particular coin survives in Very Good condition, showing the honest wear of a piece that likely saw active use during its long history. As a series, the Morgan Dollar circulated throughout the United States for about 80 years, making it a true staple of American commerce. On the obverse, the design showcases Liberty in profile, facing left and wearing a traditional Phrygian cap. The word LIBERTY is clearly inscribed upon her hair band. Surrounding this central portrait along the border are the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, the 1892 date of issue, and thirteen stars representing the original colonies. Each coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal. The reverse side presents a powerful bald eagle with its wings spread, grasping an olive branch of peace and a bundle of arrows symbolizing strength. Encircling this patriotic motif are the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination ONE DOLLAR. Positioned directly above the eagle is the national motto, IN GOD WE TRUST. This combination of symbolic imagery and historic inscriptions makes the 1892 Philadelphia issue a fascinating subject for study and appreciation.
