1892-S $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle MS-63 NGC

0.9675 troy oz .900 1892 NGC

In 1892, the San Francisco mint struck this impressive twenty dollar gold coin, a denomination often referred to as the Double Eagle. Containing 0.9675 troy ounces of gold with a purity of 0.900, this issue represents a classic era of United States coinage. The series itself enjoyed a long production run, spanning from 1850 to 1907. The obverse of the coin presents a left-facing portrait of Liberty. She wears a coronet or diadem decorated with pearls, which clearly displays the inscription LIBERTY. Surrounding her portrait are thirteen stars representing the original colonies, along with the 1892 date of manufacture. On the reverse, artist James B. Longacre designed a bold heraldic eagle with wings spread wide, shielding its breast. Above the eagle, an oval of thirteen stars is bathed in rays of light, accompanied by the national motto IN GOD WE TRUST. The outer rim is inscribed with the issuing country, United States of America, and the face value, Twenty Dollars.
