Struck at the historic Perth Mint in Australia, this gold sovereign represents a fascinating era of late nineteenth-century coinage. The piece contains 0.2354 troy ounces of pure gold, minted with a fineness of 0.9167. Preserved in Almost Uncirculated condition, it offers a remarkably clear look at the intricate artistry of the period. The front of the coin displays the veiled portrait of Queen Victoria, facing left, which represents the final major likeness of her long reign. On the back, the legendary scene of Saint George on horseback slaying a dragon comes to life. This reverse design, created by Benedetto Pistrucci, also features the 'P' mint mark positioned just beneath the horse, indicating its origin from the Western Australian minting facility.
