Struck in the final decade of the nineteenth century, this 1893 gold half eagle represents a classic era of United States coinage. Minted at the Philadelphia facility, the five dollar piece is composed of 0.900 fine gold, containing 0.24187 troy ounces of the precious metal. This specific coin has been certified in Mint State 62 (MS-62), preserving its intricate nineteenth-century details. The obverse side presents a left-facing portrait of Liberty. Her hair is bound by a band clearly inscribed with the word LIBERTY, and thirteen stars encircle her profile to represent the original colonies. Below the bust, the date 1893 is prominently displayed. On the reverse, a heraldic eagle stands with a protective shield across its breast.
