1893 Morgan Dollar MS-63 PCGS

0.7734 troy oz .900 1893 MS-63 (PCGS)

The year 1893 was a tumultuous time in American history, marked by a severe economic depression known as the Panic of 1893. Amidst this financial upheaval, the Philadelphia Mint produced a remarkably low run of just 378,000 silver dollars. This low output makes surviving examples highly prized by historians and numismatists alike, especially those preserved in choice condition. Designed by George T. Morgan, the coin features a dignified depiction of Lady Liberty on the obverse. She wears a Phrygian cap adorned with a ribbon displaying the word LIBERTY, nestled within a wreath of cotton and wheat. The reverse showcases a powerful heraldic eagle with wings spread wide, clutching both an olive branch and arrows to represent peace and readiness. Surrounding the eagle are the classic inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOLLAR, alongside the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. Struck from 90 percent silver and 10 percent copper, each coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver. With a diameter of 38.1 mm and a thickness of 3.1 mm, this substantial piece of history has been certified in Mint State 63 (MS-63) condition, meaning it retains its original mint luster and sharp details despite being minted over a century ago.
