The 1893 Morgan silver dollar stands as a remarkable artifact of late nineteenth-century American coinage. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint with a modest business strike mintage of 378,000 pieces, this coin carries no mint mark. It is composed of 90 percent silver, containing exactly 0.7734 troy ounces of the precious metal within its 38.1 millimeter diameter. This specific specimen has survived in exceptional condition, graded as Mint State 64 (MS-64). George T. Morgan designed the coin, choosing Anna Willess Williams as his model to represent Lady Liberty. On the obverse, Liberty is depicted in a left-facing profile, wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with a wreath of cotton and wheat. The word LIBERTY is inscribed upon her hairband. The reverse features a powerful heraldic eagle clasping both an olive branch and arrows in its talons, surrounded by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the denomination, ONE DOLLAR.
