The 1893 Morgan silver dollar stands as a compelling piece of late nineteenth-century American coinage. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this issue is notable for its relatively low mintage of just 378,000 pieces. Because it was produced at the main Philadelphia facility, the coin bears no mint mark, leaving the space below the eagle empty. Each coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver, with a composition that is 90 percent silver. The obverse features a profile of Liberty facing left, her hair adorned with a Phrygian cap and a band displaying the word LIBERTY. Surrounding her portrait are thirteen stars, the year 1893, and the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted with outstretched wings, grasping both an olive branch and arrows in its talons. The reverse is completed by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DOLLAR, and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST printed in Gothic script above the eagle.
