1893-O Morgan Dollar AU
The 1893 Morgan silver dollar represents a fascinating moment in late nineteenth-century American coinage. Struck at the historic New Orleans Mint, this specimen carries the distinctive 'O' mint mark on its reverse. It survives today in Almost Uncirculated condition, meaning it retains much of the original design detail that emerged from the coining press over a century ago. This silver issue belongs to a famous series that served as active currency in the United States for roughly eighty years. On the obverse, the design showcases a profile of Liberty adorned with a Phrygian cap, her hair band inscribed with the word 'Liberty'. Surrounding her portrait are thirteen stars representing the original colonies, the date 1893, and the Latin motto 'E Pluribus Unum'. Each coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing exactly 0.7734 troy ounces of the precious metal. The reverse displays a symbolic bald eagle with its wings spread, grasping both an olive branch of peace and arrows of strength. Arcing above the eagle is the national motto 'In God We Trust', while the outer edge is inscribed with 'United States of America' and the 'One Dollar' denomination. This combination of classic imagery and historical preservation makes the coin a compelling subject for study.
