1894 $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle MS-61 PCGS

0.9675 troy oz .900 1894 PCGS

In 1894, the Philadelphia facility of the United States Mint produced this impressive twenty-dollar gold coin. Containing 0.9675 troy ounces of gold with a purity of 0.900, this piece belongs to a long-running design series that spanned from 1850 to 1907. The front of the coin presents a classic profile of Lady Liberty. Her hair is secured by a diadem adorned with pearls, which clearly displays the inscription LIBERTY. Surrounding her portrait are thirteen stars representing the original colonies, with the date 1894 positioned at the bottom. On the reverse, a majestic eagle spreads its wings while supporting a shield on its chest. Above the eagle, an oval of thirteen stars is bathed in rays of light. The outer edge is inscribed with the issuing nation, United States of America, and the denomination, Twenty Dollars. This enduring design was originally created by James B. Longacre.
