The 1894 Morgan Silver Dollar is a standout issue within this celebrated American series, primarily due to its exceptionally low mintage of just 110,000 pieces. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of 90 percent pure silver. Surviving examples in Extra Fine condition offer a wonderful look at the intricate details of a design that defined late nineteenth-century American coinage. The obverse features a profile of Liberty wearing a classic Phrygian cap. Her hair band is inscribed with the word LIBERTY, while the surrounding field is adorned with thirteen stars, the date 1894, and the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. This side of the coin captures a timeless allegorical representation of freedom. On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted with outstretched wings, grasping both an olive branch and arrows in its talons. The eagle is encircled by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOLLAR, with the national motto, In God We Trust, positioned directly above the bird's head.
