Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this 1895 gold double eagle represents a classic era of American coinage. The piece contains 0.9675 troy ounces of gold, with a composition that is 90 percent pure. Designed by James Barton Longacre, this denomination was produced for over half a century, from 1850 to 1907. The obverse side displays a left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty, her hair styled upwards with a coronet bearing the inscription of her name. Below her image, the year 1895 is clearly visible. On the reverse, a detailed heraldic eagle stands as the central motif, flanked by the traditional inscriptions of United States of America and Twenty Dollars.
