1895 $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle MS-64+ PCGS

0.9675 troy oz .900 1895 PCGS

In 1895, the Philadelphia Mint struck this impressive twenty-dollar gold piece, a denomination that circulated during a dynamic era of American growth. Containing 0.9675 troy ounces of gold with a purity of 0.900, this substantial coin represents a design tradition that spanned more than half a century, from 1850 to 1907. The obverse features the profile of Lady Liberty, her hair secured in a coronet, encircled by thirteen stars representing the original colonies. The date 1895 is clearly visible at the base of the design. On the reverse, artist James B. Longacre depicted a heraldic eagle with its wings fully spread. A protective shield rests upon the bird's chest, while thirteen stars are arranged in an oval pattern beneath a halo of rays. The inscriptions United States of America and Twenty Dollars frame this powerful national symbol.
