1895 $5 Liberty Gold Half Eagle MS-62 PCGS

In 1895, the Philadelphia Mint produced over 1.3 million gold half eagles, each carrying a face value of five dollars. Today, surviving examples like this one, certified in Mint State 62 condition, offer a window into late nineteenth-century American coinage. Strikingly composed of 90 percent gold, the coin contains just under a quarter ounce of precious metal (approximately 0.2419 troy ounces). The obverse features the classic Liberty Head design, where the word "LIBERTY" is clearly inscribed across her coronet, positioned above the year 1895. On the reverse, the United States of America is honored alongside the five-dollar denomination, represented as "FIVE D." Minted in Philadelphia, this coin does not bear a mint mark, which was the standard practice for the main minting facility during this era.
