The 1895 Morgan silver dollar struck at the New Orleans Mint represents a remarkably scarce issue in the beloved nineteenth-century series. With a total mintage of just 450,000 pieces, very few of these coins survived the decades of heavy circulation and massive silver melts. This particular specimen survives in Very Good condition, showing the honest wear of a coin that actively passed through hands in the American South during the late nineteenth century. On the obverse, a left-facing profile of Liberty wears a Phrygian cap adorned with a band inscribed with her name. The classic Latin motto "E Pluribus Unum" curves along the upper border, while the 1895 date sits below, flanked by thirteen stars representing the original colonies. The silver content of this coin is 0.7734 troy ounces, minted with a purity of 90 percent silver. The reverse displays a bald eagle with its wings spread, grasping a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons. Above the eagle, the motto "In God We Trust" is inscribed in Gothic script, surrounded by the legend "United States of America" and the "One Dollar" denomination. Just above the denomination, the distinct "O" mint mark identifies this coin as a product of the historic New Orleans Mint, adding a layer of Southern regional history to this fascinating survivor.
