On the obverse side, the profile of Liberty is depicted wearing a traditional Phrygian cap. Her hair band is inscribed with the word Liberty, surrounded by thirteen stars representing the original colonies. The Latin motto E Pluribus Unum and the 1896 year of production encircle the central portrait. The reverse presents a powerful bald eagle with its wings spread, grasping both arrows and an olive branch in its talons. Above the eagle, the motto In God We Trust is visible, while the phrases United States of America and One Dollar frame the design.
