The 1896 Morgan silver dollar represents a classic era of United States coinage, minted during a time when silver dollars circulated widely in American commerce. This particular coin, composed of 0.900 fine silver containing 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal, has survived more than a century in remarkable condition. It is certified as Mint State 63, indicating a well-preserved specimen that retains much of its original luster and detail from the day it was struck. On the obverse, the profile of Liberty is depicted wearing a traditional Phrygian cap. Her hair band is inscribed with the word "LIBERTY", while the surrounding field features the Latin motto "E Pluribus Unum", thirteen stars representing the original colonies, and the 1896 date. Because this piece was struck at the Philadelphia Mint, it bears no mint mark, distinguishing it from issues produced at branch mints. The reverse displays a powerful bald eagle with its wings spread, clutching an olive branch and arrows to symbolize peace and readiness. Surrounding the central image are the inscriptions "United States of America" and "One Dollar", along with the motto "In God We Trust" positioned above the eagle.
