1896 Morgan Dollar MS-67 PCGS

The 1896 silver dollar stands as a remarkable survivor from the late nineteenth century. Produced at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin features the iconic imagery designed by George T. Morgan. It is composed of 90 percent pure silver, containing 0.7734 troy ounces of the precious metal, and measures 38.10 mm in diameter with a thickness of 3.1 mm. On the obverse side, Lady Liberty is depicted facing left, adorned with a Phrygian cap and a wreath composed of cotton and wheat, symbolizing American agriculture. The reverse side features a bald eagle with its wings spread, clutching an olive branch and arrows in its talons. Above the eagle, the classic motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is inscribed, surrounded by the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "ONE DOLLAR." Out of a total mintage of 9,976,000 pieces struck in Philadelphia that year, very few have survived in such an extraordinary state of preservation. This particular specimen has been certified in Mint State 67 (MS-67), indicating its exceptional luster and nearly flawless surfaces, which allow modern viewers to appreciate the design exactly as it was intended over a century ago.
