Struck at the historic Louisiana facility, this 1896 silver dollar represents a fascinating survivor from the late nineteenth century. It carries a grade of About Uncirculated 58 (AU-58), indicating a coin that retains nearly all of its original luster and detail, with only the slightest traces of wear from its brief time in commerce. Composed of 90 percent silver, the coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal. The obverse features a profile of Lady Liberty facing left. She wears a Phrygian cap adorned with cotton and wheat, with her hair band displaying her name. Framing her portrait are thirteen stars representing the original colonies, the date 1896, and the Latin motto translating to 'Out of many, one.' On the reverse, a majestic bald eagle is depicted with wings spread, holding arrows and an olive branch to symbolize both strength and peace. The eagle is encircled by a laurel wreath, with the national motto inscribed above its head. The 'O' mint mark is positioned just below the wreath, identifying this dollar as a product of the New Orleans Mint.
