The 1896 Morgan silver dollar stands as a classic example of late nineteenth-century United States coinage. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver, with a total purity of 0.900. Out of a original mintage of 5,000,000 pieces, this particular specimen has survived in Very Good condition, showing the honest wear of its journey through commerce. On the obverse side, a left-facing portrait of Liberty is depicted wearing a Phrygian cap, which features a hair band inscribed with the word Liberty. This central image is encircled by the Latin motto E Pluribus Unum, the 1896 year of issue, and thirteen stars representing the original colonies. The reverse displays a bald eagle with its wings spread, grasping an olive branch and a cluster of arrows in its talons. Surrounding the national bird are the inscriptions United States of America and One Dollar, along with the motto In God We Trust positioned above the eagle's head.
