The 1896 Morgan Silver Dollar stands as a remarkable example of late nineteenth-century American coinage. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin does not display a mint mark, which is characteristic of pieces produced at the main facility during this era. Each coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver, representing a 0.900 fineness that was standard for circulating silver currency of the time. On the obverse side, a profile of Liberty is depicted wearing a Phrygian cap. This symbolic headwear is decorated with agricultural elements, specifically wheat and cotton balls, showcasing the nation's agrarian roots. The year 1896 is inscribed at the bottom of the design. The reverse side presents a powerful bald eagle with its wings spread wide. In its talons, the national bird holds a combination of an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, representing both peace and readiness. This specific coin has survived in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, maintaining its original luster and details just as it looked when it left the minting press over a century ago.
