In 1897, the Philadelphia Mint produced a striking silver coin that would circulate as a staple of American commerce for nearly eight decades. This Morgan dollar, struck in 90 percent silver and containing 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal, has survived the generations in remarkable condition, certified by professional graders at Mint State 62. The obverse features a left-facing profile of Liberty. She wears a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom, with her hair band displaying her name. Surrounding her portrait are thirteen stars representing the original colonies, the year 1897, and the Latin motto meaning "Out of many, one." On the reverse, a powerful bald eagle spreads its wings while grasping an olive branch and a cluster of arrows, symbolizing a desire for peace alongside a readiness for defense. The inscriptions surrounding this central image include the name of the issuing nation, the face value of one dollar, and the motto "In God We Trust."
