1897-O Morgan Dollar AU
The 1897 Morgan silver dollar stands as a classic representative of late nineteenth-century American coinage. Minted in Louisiana, this specific issue bears the 'O' mint mark on its reverse, identifying it as a product of the historic New Orleans Mint. Out of an original production run of 4,004,000 pieces, this specimen survives in Almost Uncirculated condition, retaining much of its original luster and detail from the era before the turn of the twentieth century. On the obverse side, the profile of Liberty is depicted wearing a Phrygian cap, with the word 'Liberty' inscribed upon her hair band. Surrounding her portrait are thirteen stars, the year 1897, and the traditional Latin motto 'E Pluribus Unum'. Each coin is struck from 90 percent silver, containing 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal. The reverse of the coin showcases a bald eagle with its wings spread, grasping an olive branch and a bundle of arrows in its talons. Above the eagle, the motto 'In God We Trust' is displayed, while the legends 'United States of America' and 'One Dollar' encircle the central design.
