Struck in the late nineteenth century, this 1897 Morgan silver dollar represents a classic era of United States coinage. Minted in New Orleans, the coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.7734 troy ounces of the precious metal. Out of a total mintage of 4,004,000 pieces for this year and location, this specimen survives in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, preserving its original design details. The obverse features a profile of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap, which is adorned with a band inscribed with the word "Liberty". Surrounding her portrait are thirteen stars, the 1897 year of issue, and the traditional Latin motto "E Pluribus Unum". On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted clutching both an olive branch and arrows, symbolizing peace and readiness. The reverse design also displays the country of origin, "United States of America", the "One Dollar" denomination, and the motto "In God We Trust". The distinctive "O" mint mark is present, identifying its origin from the historic New Orleans Mint.
