In 1897, the San Francisco mint struck this impressive twenty dollar gold piece, a denomination with a production history spanning from 1850 to 1907. Containing 0.9675 troy ounces of gold, this substantial coin represents a classic era of American coinage. It has been certified in Mint State 62 (MS-62) condition, preserving the intricate details of its late nineteenth-century craftsmanship. The front of the coin showcases a left-facing portrait of Liberty. She wears a coronet decorated with pearls, which clearly displays the word LIBERTY. On the reverse, a powerful eagle spreads its wings, shielding its chest with a heraldic crest. Above the eagle, thirteen stars are arranged in an oval pattern beneath a halo of light rays. The inscriptions on this side include the issuing nation, United States of America, along with the face value, Twenty Dollars. This enduring design was originally created by James B. Longacre.
