1897-S Morgan Dollar AU
Struck in the late nineteenth century, the 1897-S Morgan silver dollar represents a classic era of American coinage. This particular specimen comes from the San Francisco Mint, denoted by the small 'S' mint mark. Containing 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver within its 90 percent silver composition, the coin survives in an impressive Almost Uncirculated condition, retaining much of its original luster and detail. The obverse displays a left-facing portrait of Liberty. She wears a traditional Phrygian cap, a historic symbol of freedom, with a band across her hair inscribed with the word 'LIBERTY'. The year 1897 is clearly struck at the bottom of the design. On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted with its wings spread wide. In its talons, the eagle firmly holds an olive branch, representing peace, alongside a bundle of arrows, representing strength and readiness. Surrounding this central image are the inscriptions 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA' and the denomination 'ONE DOLLAR', alongside the national motto, 'In God We trust'.
