1898 $2.50 Liberty Gold Quarter Eagle PR-66+ DCAM PCGS CAC

0.1209 troy oz .900 1898 PCGS

In 1898, the Philadelphia Mint produced a mere 165 proof examples of the Liberty Gold Quarter Eagle. This incredibly small production makes any surviving specimen a rare sight for coin enthusiasts. Struck in 90 percent pure gold, this particular piece contains 0.1209 troy ounces of precious metal. It has been certified in an extraordinary state of preservation, graded as Proof 66 Plus Deep Cameo (PR-66+ DCAM) with additional verification from. The design features the classic Liberty portrait on the obverse, wearing a coronet inscribed with the word LIBERTY, positioned above the 1898 date. The reverse displays a heraldic eagle surrounded by the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination expressed as 2 1/2 D. Because there is no mint mark, we know this coin was struck at the main minting facility in Philadelphia. The Deep Cameo designation highlights the intense, frosted contrast between the raised design elements and the highly reflective, mirror-like fields.
