The 1898 Morgan Silver Dollar stands as a remarkable example of late nineteenth-century American coinage. Minted in Philadelphia, this coin carries no mint mark, a traditional feature indicating its origin at the nation's primary minting facility. Each of these pieces contains 0.7734 troy ounces of silver, minted with a purity of 90 percent, representing the substantial, heavy coinage of the era. On the obverse, the design presents a left-facing portrait of Liberty. She wears a Phrygian cap, a classic symbol of freedom, adorned with a hair band inscribed with the word LIBERTY. The reverse displays a powerful bald eagle with its wings spread, grasping an olive branch of peace in one talon and a cluster of arrows of strength in the other, reflecting the dual nature of the young republic's foreign policy. This particular specimen survives in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, preserving the sharp details of the original engraving just as it looked when it left the Philadelphia Mint in 1898.
