The 1898 Morgan Silver Dollar stands as a classic representative of late nineteenth-century American coinage. Minted in Philadelphia, this particular issue carries no mint mark, a traditional distinction for coins struck at the nation's primary minting facility. Each of these historic pieces contains 0.7734 troy ounces of silver, minted with a purity of 90 percent. On the obverse, the design showcases the profile of Liberty adorned with a Phrygian cap. A band nestled in her hair clearly displays the word "Liberty". This central figure is encircled by the traditional Latin motto "E Pluribus Unum", thirteen stars representing the original colonies, and the 1898 year of issue. The reverse presents a powerful bald eagle with its wings spread, grasping both an olive branch of peace and arrows of strength. Surrounding the national bird are the inscriptions "United States of America" and the denomination "One Dollar", alongside the motto "In God We Trust". This specific specimen has survived in remarkable condition, graded as Mint State 62 (MS-62), preserving the intricate details of its original nineteenth-century design.
